New Zealand Merino / Possum Beanie Gift Box

The Yarn is 80% Merino 20% Possum Woolen spun 4 ply / fingering weight yarn grown and spun here in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. This Yarn is light weight and lofty so is perfect for your favourite beanie pattern. 

The Yarn and Pom Pom are 100% natural colour so shades may vary. 

The common brushtail possum was introduced from Australia to New Zealand, where it has become invasive and a major agricultural and conservation pest. Possums have a huge impact on New Zealand's ecosystem. Possums are prolific breeders, eat almost anything, and destroy native trees by eating their leaves. Therefore they need to be eradicated so we have made use of their fur. 

The fur that makes up the  pom pom has been hunted by locals then treated and hand made into gorgeous accessories.  The ribbon attached makes it easy to attach and remove as required. 

It is recommended that the yarn be washed before knitting as it is undyed and may contain some spinning oils.
